Product Description

Now the entire New Testament is ready for the Wired Generation.

Today's youth ingest media at a faster rate than any previous generation. And they can't get enough! The Word of Promise: Next Generation - New Testament is the perfect way for young multi-taskers to absorb Scripture. This ambitious recording makes the Word accessible to more kids than ever before.

Starring a Hollywood-level cast of young talent including Cody Linley (Hanna Montana, Dancing with the Stars) as Jesus, AnnaSophia Robb (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) as Mary Magdalene, Jordin Sparks (American Idol Winner) as Elizabeth, Cobin Bleu (High School Musical) as Peter, Alyson Stoner (Cheaper by the Dozen) as Martha, and narrated by Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings). The project includes informative book introductions by author Max Lucado and his daughter, Jenna Lucado, who is a speaker on the Revolve Tour.

The Word of Promise: Next Generation is much more than just a word-for-word reading: it's an all-star cast performing audio drama with a rich original score and Hollywood special effects. When Jesus walks on the water, kids will feel like they're in the boat. When Peter waits in the courtyard during the Lord's trial, the fire will crackle. The ambient sounds of the Holy land, the breath-taking musical score, the world-class young actors and the timeless Word of Promise all combine to deliver an unparalleled achievement.

Set includes 24 hours of audio drama on 20 CDs and a bonus 75 minute Behind-the-Scenes DVD featuring interviews with the actors.

Todays young actors bring Scriptures to life  May 23, 2010
"Word of Promise Next Generation New Testament MP3 Set" is such a great idea for today's young generation. The famous cast who gave their voices to this project includes Cody Linley, Corbin Bleu and Jordin Sparks with introductions done by Jenna Lucado (yes, Max Lucado's daughter). WOP is a 24 hour audio drama on three mp3 CDs, which I found perfect to load right onto my iPod, and a behind-the-scenes DVD. One thing I learned, this being my first experience with any audio book, is that audio books are not for me. I simply do not use my iPod enough, so I wasn't taking full advantage of this audio set. It is easier for me to sit down and read a book than to sit down and listen to my iPod. However, I think this is brilliant, as most teens have their mp3 players permanently attached to their bodies! I did love to listen to a chapter right before bed, the background sound mixed with the voices and my eyes closed made me feel as if I was there. Having my eyes closed gave me the full affect and made the stories real to me. I definitely recommend this set.

Our kids love this!  Apr 7, 2010
Our girls absolutely loved this!! It opened the door to making the Scriptures relevant to them, something that is living and for their lives, right now. They listen to it most nights in their room as they fall asleep instead of their regular story tapes and CDs. Highly reccomend this!!

Behind the Scenes DVD: A Lesson in Faith  Jan 18, 2010
When I had the opportunity to review this product, I was really excited. An audio bible for kids voiced by stars from Disney like Corbin Bleu, Cody Linley and Alyson Stoner. My first question was could all these kids be Christians and if so, how cool is that?

I got the cds almost a year ago, popped it into my cd player in the car, and was disappointed to learn they were in MP3 format which my cd player couldn't read. Neither could the other players in my house. Thus began the problem of actually listening to the audio bible.

I think enough reviewers shared their opinions on the audio portion of the cds, but I want to focus on the part of the set that impressed me the most. The "Behind the Scenes" DVD. In the dvd, which was simple to watch unlike my MP3 issues, the director shared his vision for the audio Bible and the actors shared their feelings when being asked to join this project and their experiences as it was being recorded. I was very impressed to learn that those interviewed had some real faith roots and commitments and while no one came out and said "I'm a Christian" you could tell some of them grew up in faith, had grown closer to God during this project, and were excited to participate in a project so close to their hearts.

I loved this aspect of the collection so much, our family used it for our devotions. Since my children are into theatre and some of them have aspirations of working with Disney some day, it was a great lesson in teaching the kids that you can still have faith and be in Hollywood and that there were other kids who were living their dream and serving God. It opened the doors for more discussions on Hollywood and faith and the difficulties that Christians face in that environment.

Understand the concept...not sure I like the outcome.  Dec 1, 2009
I chose to review this particular product because it involved many of the young men & women my daughter has been listening to and watching on TV. I thought it was intriguing that Thomas Nelson had chosen to record the New Testament with this group of young people, especially on the heels their successful release of the same thing recorded by several adult celebrities.

Honestly, I had a very difficult time listening to this MP3 set. Not because it wasn't well done, but because it was simply unrealistic. Sure, a handful of New Testament characters would have fallen into that 16-21 year old range, but the fact is, that many were not. Most difficult for me was listening to 20-year old Cody Linley, playing the part of the 30-33-year old Jesus.

I can understand the desire to encourage tweens and teens to listen to the Bible, but to do substitute kids into these roles sacrifices some of the "Gospel story" for the sake of marketing. I had no real issues with the original Word of Promise set - I actually enjoyed it. But, I'm afraid this particular "young" version is stretching it more than I'm comfortable with.

Great for today's kids!  Nov 16, 2009
My kids inhale audio books. They have always loved listening to stories. They are more apt to have a story playing in the room, or on their MP3 players, at any given time, rather than music.

I was very excited to have the opportunity to review The Word of Promise Next Generation New Testament Audio Bible from Thomas Nelson. It is already in MP3 format, so no having to "rip" the CDs to put them on the players. Also, it presents the Word of God in a format that is appealing to young people. The voices are done by popular teen actors that your kids may already be familiar with. (My kids knew a few of them, though they don't watch much TV.)
